A new post...finally!!!!
I know, I know, it's been a long time.
I'll catch up eventually, but there's been much drama that I frankly didn't want to sit down and dish about.
Turns out my frog wasn't my prince.
(Insert sad face)
Buuuut...
My latest project is just what I needed.
It has a past, a karma all its own, an indefinite future, and the person for whom this is intended is what closes this circle.
I have a dear friend who wants a scarf much like the one Dylan wore on the cover of Blonde on Blonde.
OK, so I'm thinking that I have to get some black and white yarn, and after more thought, I've decided that this will be a crochet project.
I'm going through my stash, and I see it.
The salt and pepper cotton that has always cried to be used, yet lies in a bin, unraveled from the last attempt - but rewound and ever hopeful.
I bought the yarn in a fit of heartbreak a few years ago, and the shawl I began never saw completion.
It rode around in my knitting bag for years, but after a while, I just didn't want to finish a project I started on that awful day - and I don't wear shawls, anyway.
Funny how the yarn was a salve that day, but not the project.
I love this yarn.
I'm not sure why, as there's nothing spectacular about it. It's black and white, it's cotton, and that's it.
But out of all the angora, alpaca, and other gorgeous yarns that I know I have but cannot recall, this is what always cried for yet another attempt.
Cut to the day when a recent ex (not the frog) helped me finally unravel what was, by now, a rather large half-shawl.
I felt hopeful now about the yarn, though correctly not him.
Once again, it rode around with me, asking constantly what it was to become - and I didn't want to default to granny squares.
This had to be special.
So the other morning, it made sense.
This yarn has seen heartbreak, hope, and has waited patiently for its purpose.
It's more interesting because it's been around the block a few times, and has survived knitting, unraveling, rewwinding, crocheting.
It's cotton, so it will endure.
Wash it, dry it, and wear it with care but not worry.
Cisco, honey...
This will be your scarf.
I'm not done yet, but this time I will be.
